A toolkit for inclusive mentoring: launching the TenU RISE Guide

TenU RISE is a unique mentoring programme for technology transfer professionals, built on the strong relationships between our mentees and mentors. But how do you create an environment where these relationships can develop and thrive? The TenU RISE Mentoring Programme Guide explains it—clearly, concisely, and with impactful illustrations, plus plenty of pointers for those who want to explore further.

Applications now open for the TenU RISE 2025 mentoring programme. Sign up and apply here before 2 March.

The TenU RISE Guide was created to support the mentees and mentors of TenU RISE. It lays out the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion on which TenU RISE is built to foster human connection, growth and development. The Guide discusses at which moments mentoring might be particularly useful; how the relationship benefits both mentees and mentors; and what characterises the process of mentoring.

Mentoring relies on the crucial skills of careful listening, questioning, and ultimately thinking together. The section on skills also includes guidance on how to leverage diversity, welcome neurodivergence, and supporting mental health in mentoring conversations.

After one year of successful mentoring, we decided to share the TenU RISE Guide to help increase the impact of mentoring across the sector. The TenU RISE Guide offers tools that will support anybody involved in mentoring for professional development. Mentoring is a developmental relationship between mentor and mentee and creating the right environment for that relationship to flourish is key - the TenU RISE Guide can help you with that.
